It Takes a Village, Or Two Sets of Grandparents and an Aunt

We were so fortunate that our family traveled from afar to help us during H’s first month. They kept us fed, our dishes clean, and laundry washed, all while loving on our sweet baby boy. We will be forever grateful to them.

Our first visitor was my mom, now known as Grand Mar. She swooped in like Mary Poppins the day after we got home from the hospital and stayed for two weeks. Grand Mar is a nurse, so in addition to all of her help, she took care of me as I recovered from labor and delivery. She spoiled us all, especially a little guy who got his pajamas warmed at night.

Next came Bevie and Papa. H is their fourth grandchild and they are professionals when it comes to loving on their grands. H is named after his Papa. It was a special moment when they met for the first time. Bevie is a baby wisperer whose calming presence brings peace to babies and new mommies alike. She stayed for a week and took such good care of all of us.

My dad, now Pappy, was unable to visit when Grand Mar came due to his teaching schedule. By the time he arrived, he was chomping at the bits to meet his grandson. Pappy came to visit with my sister, Aunt S, during his spring break.  Spring came early this year, so their trip coincided with an especially beautiful peak cherry blossom season. Pappy said that the good Lord was putting on a show for H's birth. I think he is right.
